Pottery and Ceramics course at West Dean College

Sunday 3rd April - Friday 8th April 2011

Why not join Jon on his pottery and ceramics course at West Dean College and find out how the Herbi4s are made?

As a tutor at West Dean College, Jon aims to teach in a straight forward, practical and relaxed manner, and to give each individual the self-assurance in their ability to continue their projects independently.

At the end of the course, students may either leave their work to be completed at the College, book a place on a one-day glazing course to decorate and glaze it themselves, or take away their pieces in the raw state for completion elsewhere.

West Dean College and Gardens are situated in South East England, six miles north of the historic city of Chichester and 12 miles from the south coast.

The Pottery occupies a ground-floor workshop. Facilities include eight electric wheels, a slab roller, a spray booth, gas and electric kilns and an outdoor area where raku firings take place. A range of pottery tools are available for students' use.

Message from Josephine, a satisfied student: "Thank you, Jon, so much for a superb course and for all the guidance and support in glazing and firing thereafter. I haven't had such a sense of achievement in years - all because of you!"

Herbi4 Pottery trade adverts are appearing in the Spring 2011 editions of the Heritage Shop Catalogue and the Garden Shop Catalogue.

Trade Shows

If you are looking to restock and refresh your store after the busy festive period, take a look at our Herbi4 pottery. We are exhibiting some brand new products to complement our existing range.

From the retail point of view, Herbi4s are:

  • new to the market - there is nothing of this quality or design available elsewhere
  • sensibly priced
  • desirable
  • versatile - the pots and planters work well in both an indoor and outdoor setting
  • collectable - as more designs are added, customers can expand their collection, offering potential for repeat sales

Goodies to take Home from the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show

The show was a great success and proved to be a fine testing ground for the new Herbi4 product range. The Herbi4s themselves thoroughly enjoyed the week away from the pottery and were even more pleased when Harriot Lane Fox mentioned the Herbi4 planters as a must-have item to buy in her article in the gardening supplement of the Daily Telegraph.

She wrote: "People without a veg patch who fancy growing their own pesto should check out the witty, window-sill sized, Herbi4 planters decorated with animal heads."

Fun Day in May at Lavender Fields

The Herbi4 Pottery donated a lavender coloured pig, smartly dressed in his very own wellies, to Naomi House Children's Hospice so that they can use it for future fund raising events with a name the pig competition.

Jon's sculptures feature in Gardens Illustrated

In the December 2009 issue of Gardens Illustrated, Jon's sculptures are beautifully depicted in the rural bliss of Ann Black's South Downs garden.

"Ann wanted places throughout the garden where she could display sculptures - including... a pair of fabulous ceramic sheep made by Jon Barrett-Danes."
